Nathan Douglas

Hi My name is Nathan Douglas, I'm a 17 year old student, and this is my website. On here you will find the three main things that (I think) makes me, me:

Maths

Maths

Mathematics is a subject that I've been interested in for quite a long time, I would say it has been the leading factor in many of the choices I have made in my life (i.e. choice of school, things to do in my free time, etc.). I feel as though maths is the one subject that I always ssem to just "get". For my other subjects I could do well if I put enough effort in, but with maths, ideas just seem to "click" and they didn't seem to hard.

I am now on a quest for knowledge, I am to try and find proofs to problems that are presented to me, and I may put some of the more interesting ones on this website. I may also put proofs of seemingly trivial things, so that I can (hopefully) find it later to help me prove something else.

Computer Science

Computer Science

My interest for computer science came up around the beginning/middle of year 11, where I had to consider what I wanted to study at college/ sixth form which in turn leads to what I wanted to study at university. At the time I did GCSE ICT so I wasn't completely sure what computer science would entail, but i felt as though it would be a better fit than IT because at around the same time and I thought it would include a lot more programming. This lead to me first trying to learn VB, getting board, and moving onto python.

Now, I would say I can do quite a few things in python, but if I don't (which is a large majority of the time) I will just look at the python 3.4 docs or just look it up on StackOverflow (What did people do before StackOverflow?)

Music

Music

This one may at first glance seem to be very out of place, but it has in fact helped me to grow (somewhat) as a person. In year 3, I decided to start learning classical guitar. This is due to a miraculous coincidence

  1. I often heard my dad in the other room playing the guitar and I often thought "I want to be able to play music like that".
  2. An assembly in which a classical guitar teacher advertise that there were guitar lessons within school.

Thus started my (on and off) path into music and the performing arts in general. Today I am currently Grade 6 classical guitar and I am working towards completing Grade 8.
